Role Summary

You will execute and maintain Dis-Chem’s basic merchandising standards across shelves, displays, and stock areas while delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment focused on health, beauty, and wellness products.

Minimum Requirements – Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Up to 6 months’ retail experience
  • Computer literate (MS Office – basic proficiency)
  • Willing and able to work retail hours (shifts, weekends, public holidays)

Advantageous / Preferred

  • At least 1 year retail experience
  • Bilingual (English + another SA language)
  • Knowledge of merchandising standards and FMCG industry
  • Product/category knowledge (especially health, beauty, pharmaceuticals)
  • Ability to analyse ZMORE reports (for ordering/stock management)

Key Responsibilities

Stock Management & Merchandising

  • Restock merchandise promptly to maximise sales
  • Store/pack delivered or pulled stock correctly and timeously in designated spaces
  • Rotate stock regularly on FIFO (First In, First Out) basis
  • Check shelves for sell-by/expiry dates; remove/report expired/near-expiry items
  • Maintain full product range availability on shelves at all times
  • Report low stock, out-of-stocks, damaged, or expired items to management
  • Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem operating standards, store layout, and planograms
  • Build, face up, stock, and maintain merchandising displays
  • Ensure shelves/products are neatly presented, visible, correctly labelled, and priced; report discrepancies
  • Flatten and remove empty boxes to designated area
  • Assist with stock counting, stock files, and general stocktaking
  • Clearly mark items without barcodes
  • Assist with loading and off-loading of stock

Customer Service & Store Maintenance

  • Provide friendly, helpful, courteous assistance and product advice to customers
  • Resolve out-of-stock and product queries (follow up via customer service list)
  • Maintain daily physical upkeep of your designated shop floor and storeroom areas/displays
  • Assist with back shopping
  • Assist in training new staff
  • Wear correct uniform and name badge at all times
  • Minimise losses by handling merchandise carefully

Compliance & General

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs, health & safety rules
  • Report bad/suspicious behaviour (staff or customers)
