Requirements

• Minimum  educational qualification: Basic reading and writing skills (no formal certificate required – ABET/Grade 7–9 level literacy/numeracy)
• Appropriate porter experience within a hospital environment (advantageous)

Inherent Requirements of the Job

• Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting patients from/onto beds, trolleys, and wheelchairs
• Willing and able to render shift duty and rotate across different departments/wards
• Physically fit for heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and handling soiled/medical equipment

Competencies (Knowledge/Skills)

• Basic knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control procedures
• Appropriate knowledge of porter service delivery in a hospital setting
• Good communication skills (written and verbal)

Duties / Key Performance Areas

• Safe transport of patients on trolleys and wheelchairs within various hospital areas
• Check and replace gas cylinders in wards
• Assist with shifting/moving of medical equipment
• Ensure a safe and hygienic work environment
• Apply basic Infection Prevention and Control measures
• Collect and clean equipment after use
• Assist with removal of bodies from wards and perform related duties
• Collect and deliver blood specimens, blood hampers, and patient folders
• Assist ambulatory (walking) patients
• Greet and direct patients/visitors to various areas in the hospital
