Job Overview

Pedros is looking for a Cleaning Supervisor to oversee cleaning, sanitation, housekeeping and related operations at its Distribution Centre in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal.

The successful candidate will lead the cleaning team, manage daily cleaning activities, ensure food safety and hygiene standards are maintained, control cleaning resources and equipment, and ensure compliance with company procedures, health and safety requirements and HACCP standards.

Key Responsibilities

General Management

Drive Pedros People Values and Leadership Principles.Ensure employees understand and follow relevant SOPs.

Train employees on cleaning, sanitation, chemical handling, equipment and safety procedures.Identify operational gaps and implement corrective actions.

Conduct daily shift-start Vibe sessions.

Communicate operational issues and requirements to management and relevant departments.

Team Management

Prepare daily work schedules and allocate cleaning duties.Manage attendance, punctuality, leave and shift coverage.

Ensure adequate staffing levels.

Conduct shift roll calls.

Monitor employee performance, conduct, discipline and productivity.

Address poor performance and disciplinary issues according to company procedures.

Build and maintain a high-performing cleaning team.

Train and integrate temporary employment service employees.

Resolve team-related issues effectively.

Cleaning, Sanitation & Food Safety

Enforce food safety and hygiene requirements.

Ensure cleaning practices support HACCP requirements.

Supervise daily cleaning and sanitation throughout the Distribution Centre.

Oversee deep-cleaning activities.

Supervise washdown and cleaning of food-processing machinery and equipment where applicable.

Ensure approved cleaning SOPs are consistently followed.

Maintain required cleaning standards before, during and after operations.

Take immediate corrective action where standards are not met.

Quality Control & Inspections

Conduct regular inspections of cleaned areas.

Verify cleaning standards.

Identify and correct poor cleaning practices.

Follow up on corrective actions.

Respond to cleaning and housekeeping complaints.Report building damage, maintenance requirements and facility defects.

Support internal and external audit readiness.

Chemical Management & Safety

Ensure correct dilution and application of cleaning chemicals and food-safe sanitisers.

Ensure employees understand chemical safety procedures.

Maintain access to Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Ensure chemicals are correctly labelled and safely stored.

Monitor PPE compliance.

Monitor chemical usage and investigate excessive consumption.

Report and address chemical-related incidents.

Inventory & Equipment Control

Monitor cleaning chemicals, consumables and paper products.

Monitor cleaning tools and equipment.

Ensure supplies are replenished before minimum stock levels are reached.

Request or order cleaning supplies.

Prevent wastage and misuse.

Inspect cleaning equipment regularly.

Report faulty equipment and arrange repairs or replacements.

Ensure equipment is properly stored.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Enforce health and safety requirements.

Ensure employees wear the correct PPE.

Ensure cleaning activities are performed safely.

Identify and report unsafe conditions.

Ensure chemicals and equipment are used safely.

Maintain safe chemical storage.

Report incidents and complete required documentation.

Ensure employees understand emergency and safety procedures.

Documentation & Audit Compliance

Complete daily sanitation records.

Complete pre-operational inspection reports.

Maintain cleaning checklists.

Update cleaning and chemical usage trackers.Maintain records on SharePoint required.

Maintain employee training records.Ensure documentation is accurate and completed on time.Ensure records are available for audits.

Action and close relevant audit findings within required timelines.Maintain evidence of corrective actions and improvements.

People Management & Development

Build and maintain a high-performance team.

Address poor performance and discipline.

Apply the disciplinary code consistently.

Draft and issue warnings where authorised.

Initiate disciplinary processes where required.

Identify skills gaps and arrange training.

Ensure new employees receive induction and job-specific training.

Ensure TES employees are trained before starting duties.
