Position Purpose
The Technician: Utilities will monitor Transnet Property’s utilities management systems, including water and electrical energy utilisation.
The role covers substations, high-voltage distribution networks, depots and related equipment, with a focus on improving electrical supply efficiency, reducing costs, increasing network availability and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor substations and high-voltage distribution networks.
Conduct site inspections, troubleshooting and meter-data analysis.
Audit electrical installations to support accurate monthly utilities billing.
Monitor electrical energy and water utilisation.
Support power factor correction initiatives.
Identify electrical distribution network risks.
Monitor planned and preventive maintenance activities.
Ensure compliance with relevant electrical, water, OHS and statutory requirements.
Inspect workmanship and materials for quality control.
Prepare utilities reports and maintain technical records.
Audit energy-saving initiatives.
Maintain manuals, drawings and utilities documentation.
Develop and maintain maintenance schedules.
Record statutory inspections and maintenance activities.
Monitor utilities billing and cost recovery.
Analyse supplier billing from municipalities and Eskom.
Support high-voltage infrastructure modifications.
Participate in occupational health and safety risk meetings.
Support strategic utilities management projects.
Provide technical input to project teams.
Monitor Life Cycle Asset Management processes.
Support replacement of ageing assets and updating of asset records.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have:
NQF Level 6 National Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
3–5 years’ relevant post-training experience.
High-voltage/electrical distribution network experience is recommended.
Trade-tested Electrical Artisan qualification – required.
Wireman’s Licence – required.
Valid Code EB driver’s licence.
Project management experience.
