Position: Sterilisation Operator Production (CSSD and Gas)

Salary: R170 226 per annum

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for the Sterilisation Operator Production (CSSD and Gas) position at Groote Schuur Hospital in Observatory.

The successful candidate will be responsible for decontamination, sterilisation, infection control, equipment maintenance, and stock management within the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD). This opportunity is suitable for candidates with a Grade 9 qualification and relevant CSSD experience.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) / Grade 9 (Std 7)

Appropriate CSSD experience

Inherent Requirements

Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays and night duty

Knowledge and Skills

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

Good interpersonal relationship skills

Ability to work effectively within a team

Willingness to be rotated within the CPD Department

Basic understanding of disinfection, decontamination and sterilisation

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:Hospitals & Treatment Centers

Applying sterilisation processes and techniques

Promoting and adhering to infection control and health and safety regulations

Decontaminating, packing and sterilising instruments, linen and supplies

Assisting with cleaning and testing sterilisation equipment, washing machines and autoclaves

Lifting and pushing heavy equipment when required

Maintaining equipment in optimal working condition

Using autoclaves, washing machines and consumables cost-effectively

Monitoring and maintaining adequate stock levels

Reporting and assisting with investigations into lost instruments and equipment
