FlySafair (Safair Operations) is hiring Direct Entry Captains to join their Flight Deck Crew division across multiple bases in Johannesburg (JHB), Lanseria (HLA), Cape Town (CPT), and Durban (DBN).
The successful candidate will report directly to the Fleet Captain.

 Key Responsibilities

As a Direct Entry Captain, you will be responsible for:

• Ensuring the safe, secure, and efficient operation of the aircraft in full compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, SOPs, and the Operations Manual (OM)
• Exercising full command authority, including the right to deny boarding or remove passengers/cargo when safety requires it
• Performing full pre-flight preparation, including inspections, weather checks, route planning, and system checks
• Piloting and navigating the aircraft through all phases of flight, handling both normal and abnormal operations
• Maintaining high standards of technical flying proficiency, operational efficiency, and passenger safety
• Leading and coordinating the flight crew, encouraging professionalism, discipline, teamwork, and morale
• Communicating effectively with ATC, dispatch, ground operations, and passengers for smooth coordination
• Monitoring aircraft performance, fuel, mass and balance, legal documents, and airworthiness compliance
• Managing operational time pressures to support On-Time Performance (OTP) while keeping safety first
• Representing FlySafair professionally at all times with high personal conduct and appearance standards

 Minimum Requirements (Essential)

Applicants must meet the following:

• Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent
• ATPL License
• Minimum flight time options:
  • 5000 hours Total Time (TT) AND 2000 hours PIC > 50T, OR
  • 5000 hours TT AND 1000 hours PIC on B737 or similar
• Recent experience within the last 24 months as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) on a large commercial airliner under Part 121
  (e.g., Boeing 737 or equivalent Airbus type)
• No medical conditions that may affect duties as Captain
• Ability to work irregular hours
• Willing to sign an Upgrade Training Bond

 Additional Knowledge & Competency Requirements

• Strong knowledge of Air Traffic Control airspace and procedures
• Good understanding of South African CARS & CATS
• Knowledge of Doc 8168
• Excellent knowledge of:
  • Safair Operations Manual (OM)
  • Boeing SOPs (Normal & Non-Normal procedures)
